Shortly after Nas announced the release of his Lost Tapes Vol. 2, he responded to the 1515 Boys and revealed that the compilation will be released on December 14th.

“I’m unloading records I want the streets to hear,” the Queens rapper said in an e-mail. “Cleaning out my hard drives. Gonna do this, then start fresh. 35. Danj! says:

Maaan… I wish niqqas would give up that Pete Rock dream… you got about 15 years worth of proof that they’re not gonna work together again. Premier is one of my all-time favorites, but he’s been makin’ the same beat for almost 10 years now. The Just Blaze I will agree on tho’- that needed to happen YESTERDAY. Nas’ biggest roadblock is that a lot of his fans wanna keep him trapped inside one era… I ain’t sayin’ he needs Rick Ross to tell him shit, but I do agree with that post about letting him pick the beats… or if not him, someone else besides Nas needs to. His beat selection has been questionable as fuck for years. For every good/great one, he picks about 2 or 3 clunkers.

    -D!

  36. ctg says:

I love Nas’ music. He’s my favorite emcee. The fact of the matter is since Stillmatic his beat selection has been inconsistent. All he rhymes over is dark, moody production. Sometimes it works but after awhile it becomes redundant.

I’ll give you an example. These are some of the prodcuers that worked on Hip Hop Is Dead (2006):

    – Dr. Dre
    – Kanye West
    – will.i.am
    – Scott Storch
    – Stargate
    – Salaam Remi

Sound like an all-star cast right? It should be but instead the overall tone of the production on that album is dark because Nas picked the beats. That works for a few songs but like I said it becomes redundant when it’s done for an entire album. Even on Illmatic the production is varied. The only dark songs on there production wise are “N.Y. State of Mind” and “One Love”.

I’m not saying I want to hear Nas on “B.M.F.” or “MC Hammer” but are you seriously going to tell me that Nas wouldn’t murder the beats for “Maybach Music III”, “Free Mason” or “Super High”?

@Danj! is right. Give up that Pete Rock/DJ Premier dream. It’s 2010. I would have just said “Nas should work with J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League” but as I showed you it doesn’t matter if he works with great producers. He’s going to pick some dark ass, moody melancholy beat from them.

This is his last album for Def Jam anyway (I believe). Might as well do something different.

  37. M8 says:

    GET EMINEM ON THIS

    THAT’S MY DREAM

  43. Krome says:

I cant fucking wait!!!! Lost Tapes 2 (although you KNOW niggas is gonna say its not as good as the first Lost Tapes when it comes out)!! And we all know his solo album will not drop when he says it will. Nas is known for constant delays of his albums. I say it will come out no earlier than Winter 2011. I don’t care… I just hope its the vintage, aggressive, hungry, Nasty Nas. Nobody in the game can fuck wit Nas on his A game..
