Drake Breaks Jay-Z’s Billboard Record

The Olympians aren’t the only ones breaking records. With 2 Chainz’ “No Lie” landing this week at #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts, Drake’s assistance earned him a total of 10 #1s passing Jay-Z’s 9.

Drake is also the current record holder for most #1s on Billboard’s Rap charts. In February, “Make Me Proud” earned him his 11th passing Puff. How’s that for a new Drake record?

  5. jackaveli says:

The question begs to be asked tho…

How many of these songs were HIS songs and not features? If you whore your 16s out to the hottest rappers of the moment, you can easily get that many #1s. Jay-Z doesn’t do nearly as many features as Drake and he’s been around 4x longer.

  6. greengob1in says:

Drake is humble. Jay is as cocky as they get. Fuck you jay z

  7. Gayke says:

  17. JustMyOpinion says:

That’s what happen when the song-making quality has been lowered in RAP music.

Rap/Sing-repetitive hook-Rap/Sing-repetitive hook and viola you have yourself a hit nowadays.

  18. yacht says:

drakes humble? maybe back in 2009 before he first started getting famous and before fucking around with rihanna, but now he’s a YMCMB dickhead full of himself ..too much Birdman hype

  19. flawda says:

Drake and Lil Wayne are the two biggest whores in hiphop, they would work with Miley Cyrus if it would get them attention. Jay-z only fucks with his people, he doesn’t do all the collaborations of those dudes so those numbers are thwarted.

  20. Scrilla says:

Well jay z doesn’t make pop shit

  21. Why So Serious says:

All Drake does is give great hooks, thats it.

  22. sunn says:

it also gotta suck for jay that everytime he leaves his new house he has to pass drake road. #nowyaknow

  23. Ooh la la says:

Drake is so cute. I wanna suck his butter pecan cock. I bet he looks better naked than Chris Brown.

  24. juan says:

Drake is getting way too cocky . Birdman must be filling his head with a lot of bull shit . I am getting sick of this bitch ass drake .

  25. The Watcher says:

Congrats Drake! S/o Hov for opening those doors

  26. skully@@@ says:

Nicki minaj & drake should be kissing lil wayne ass, because if the “Carter 3” didnt blow up like it did, no one would care about either of them, drake’s very talented, but still..

  27. Collar Cali says:

Congrats Drizzy. All this in just 3 yrs… I’m just gonna need for him to calm down…. his whole team cocky, but then again blame it on the media & the industry for pumping them up so early in the game.

    @Jackavelli
    Drake had 7 collabs & 3 of his own…
Hovs was 5 collabs & 4 of his own tracks…

  28. D-Lon says:

Drake is only featured on the song… this is 2Chainz record…

  29. ***CROMER BEATS*** says:

Congrats Drake. But don’t let that shit get to your head too much.

Does producing radio friendly singles matter? Billboard is a weekly reminder of how watered down the culture has become. I mean make ya money that’s cool but there’s no American Gangster or Blueprint or Reasonable Doubt in his catalogue I mean he doesn’t even have a Kingdom Come, and that was some thought provoking shit!

  31. young says:

    1. Drake [2009] – 10 (3 Lead, 7 Collaborations)
    2. Jay-Z [1995] – 9 (4 Lead, 5 Collaborations)
    3. Lil Wayne [1999] – 8 (3 Lead, 5 Collaborations)
    4. Kanye West [2003] – 6 (3 Lead, 3 Collaborations)

  32. Loaded says:

Drizzy The God keeping breaking records while niggas keep hating! HA!

  33. Lil Majer The Cartune says:

That’s nice and all and I give props when its due, but this really isn’t $#!+ if you wanna get technical. Let’s try getting 10 number ones on the Billboard Hot 100 SOLO! Now THAT’S an accomplishment!

  34. JACK BAHLZAK says:

    GOOD!!

    FUCK GAY-Z!!

    GET EM DRIZZY!!!

    THAT IZ ALL…

  35. JACK BAHLZAK says:

OH AND IT DIDNT TAKE DRAKE 12 ALBUMS TO BREAK CAMEL TOEZ RECORD!!!!

  36. HB says:

@young, so 70% of drake’s fame is based on collabos? yeah that means Hov still the GOAT then.

  37. Maize says:

thats cool and all but Jay-Z still has 4 #1 billboard 100 singles and Drake has 0. Oh and its not 11 #1 albums anymore its 12 cause of the throne album

  38. RK says:

Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t… Drakes been around 4 years and he’s already breaking records… Jays been making music for 20 years he’s obviously going to have more album out than drake, also name one drake collab that he didn’t have at least 1 verse and the hook…

  39. Evil says:

Easy to get nr 1 hits when you sing.Drake aint about Rap music

  40. lyrykal says:

“im just feeling like THE THRONE is for the taking, watch me take it”- anonymous

  41. STINKMEANER says:

right, but drake doesn’t compete with rap or jay z. drake is pop music, he is competing with justin bieber and lady gaga. get your money drake, enjoy the success, but you’re not hip hop and you can’t buy respect.

  42. Rozay says:

What Drake has done since 2009 no one has ever done. Jay always says numbers don’t lie, check out Drizzys stats since 2009, you can’t deny that. Six platinum singles and four gold singles as a lead artist, another six platinum singles from being featured on someone elses song. two #1 albums (both platinum by the way) Andre 3000 crossed over Jay Z crossed over too there is nothing wrong with that, you can’t be one dimensional if you want to expand your brand it’s not called selling out it’s called being smart. the ones who don’t cross over remained stuck in a box. He is becoming bigger than his boss Wayne if he isn’t already. The scary part is he’s only 25 and that’s younger than Jay-Z was when he first broke through with aint no nigga in 1996 Jay was 26 going on 27. Like it or not if Drake doesn’t stop he will eventually break Jay-Z’s #1 albums record unless of course Jay continues to make albums at the age of 50 which I wouldn’t doubt. Sure he makes cheesy songs at times but you can’t tell me the motto, lord knows, stay schemin, underground kings, i’m going in, and unstoppable aren’t dope so don’t act like he can’t make those types of songs either.

  43. JustMyOpinion says:

^ You really think this guy will be around for 10 or more albums. Just like people got tired of JaRule crooning a lot of people will get tired of this guy. Same formula on everything song.

I don’t know about you, but my favorite rapper’s don’t SING.

  44. Rozay says:

^ 2 of my favorite rapper’s do, Andre 3 stacks and Eminem both sing.

  45. dennis123161 says:

if only most of those songs actually was rap this would be awesome

  46. Black Shady says:

LMAO at the comments. Just be happy for the guy

who gives a fuck if he got more than Jay??? Jay-Z is the first one laughing and yellin “men lie, women lie #s dont” well…..according to #s….Drake has surpassed Jay. end of story

  47. deez says:

most of the songs counted were from 09 though, so how do those relate to our current year of 12″

  48. deez says:

ok i get it now, so it supposed to be from when they startedddd, rightttt, even though drake has beeeeeeeeen signed to young money before 09..

  49. steems says:

Remember ppl, Jayz doesnt colab with everyone and he still #1

  50. Black Shady says:

^ well…yeah Jay collabs with everyone….from Drake to Nas to Alicia Keys to Cold fuckin play

  51. kj says:

Why are you guys comparing Drake to Jay-Z, Like seriously its like comparing Tupac to Lil Wayne.. GTFOH

  52. MegaMind says:

Time for the MIND to interject….
@JustMyOpinion…you are TOTALLY right, the same people building Drake up in this post, will be TOTALLY disinterested in about a year or two. I’m not taking anything away from Drake, but he’s going to be a victim of his own ADD generation. These kids now and days have the attention span of a goldfish. And more importantly, Drake needs to get a little more introspective in his work. Currently, his biggest market and fans are females, who are in themselves a fickle breed (no diss), I just mean that the NEXT pretty rapper with a hot beat and sing songy hook comes along, Drake has competition.

Jay, Ye, Em, Nas…even Ross give a little more introspective. Wayne actually digressed. That’s a different story though. My biggest beef with these stats are that they are arbitrary and that goes for Hov too! You can spin a # to mean whatever you need to it mean. Just has the second most #1 albums behind the Beatles SINCE the inception of soundscan/tabulation, so what that means is who’s to say Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, etc. DIDN’T sell a million or two in a week, when you have to BUY the record to enjoy them?? When there were actual record stores, mom & pop shops, etc.

In closing, until Drake can sell 80+ million records worldwide (Jay’s tabulation or his own and collaborative efforts – and before you young dummies start talking – when these type of figures are mentioned they include ALL sales…Jay, WTT, Jay on a Mariah, MJ, Coldplay records, etc). Until Drake does that….then….but i won’t deny the young boy his place in history…Salute! I just hate when cats talk uniformed on an issue….you dummies go study who Romney picked as his VP candidate today so you can make an informed VOTING decision in Nov!

    MM…im out!

  53. […] and Yeezy has 6). Above is the video for the chart-topping song and below is the info courtesy of RapRadar. Drake is unbelievably talented and hard working … but doing this at 25 years old … […]

  54. attaboy says:

Who really cares; for real. Number ones should be based on YOUR shit only. Not a feature. this is so insignificant. Drake is ass, pure ass. Like two butt cheeks. Everything about him is annoying. What rapper trips when they perform. He should stay in Canada or do Nickelodon shit… He only ACTS like a hip hop artist. The art needs no more rappers, but artist. And that’s no LIE… double truth ruth (LOL)

  55. queensgetthemoney says:

but you know jay-z probably gonna come with another album after hearing this might even step up his features

  56. ***CROMER BEATS*** says:

Co-Sign @JustMyOpinion Niggas got to switch it up…often. Thats how the game goes. Versatility, Singing or not.

  57. JADatsyuk says:

Who gives a fuck? Drake couldn’t walk in Jay’s daughter socks. Ha!

  58. touchNwho says:

this would really be brag-worthy IF jay was retired, but the nigga still going to drop another album, with more hits, so this record that drake broke will be a back and forth between them, just like Jay and diddy go back and forth on the Forbes lists.

  59. the One says:

what all you are forgetting is that Jay started in an era when Hip hop was not pop and was not being played on main stream radio stations as it is now. Congrats to Drake but he knows none of this would have been possible if Jigga didn’t take pop across the road into the hood.
So Jay is the true goat !! Still Drake be killing all the new snitches all day…. The person that should be most upset or threatened is Kanye!

  60. M.T says:

    LOL @ the comments.

  61. eastpointvet says:

what yall dont understand is they changed the way a number 1 record is tallied. a single can come trough sell a shit load of singles in a week and be #1 and not even have radio play. so todays itunes world favors an artist like drake

  62. Jordan says:

disgusting, he isn’t even that good, he’s just hype.. People these days will listen to anything that will fit in a club and we all know hype = club = shit.

  63. COLE WORLD says:

All I’m going to say is.. Jay-z really doesn’t care.. That Is All

  64. cheeeese says:

kind of agree with @eastpoint, but not always the case, because “Mercy” is still like #25 on itunes, and “No lie” is #35 so its obviously either gained alot of radio requests, or gained alot more downloads on itunes then it previously had. My point is the radio still has impact, just not as much as it did years back

  65. Drakegarglesballs says:

    Fuck drake’s pussy ass.

  66. JWhistles says:

I cant believe Drake is still around, thats how you know “rap” is sad.

I cant be the only one that thinks if Pac was still alive the damn Drakes of the music world would have never even been heard of. The only good career ending rappers are rich and dont give a shit anymore, its a free-for-all of garbage now.

  67. JHP says:

It never fails, Drake breaks the records for most #1 hits on the R&B and Rap charts, so yall have to throw up the Hot 100s chart. Drake is still fairly early in his career, and he’s doing way more than your sorry asses will ever do. It doesn’t matter whether he was a featured artist or not on these songs, because I guarantee you he’s the one that made them hits. “No Lie” for instance would not have been a hit if not for Drizzy. As for Hov’s 12 (and counting) #1 albums. Drake is once again early in his career. He has at least another 15 or so years to go in the rap game probably, he could surely catch up to that eventually, Hov won’t be rapping forever. I’m not saying Drake is on Jay’s level or nothing, because he’s not, but yall don’t wanna never give that nigga his just dues

  68. JHP says:

*Oh and for the record, Jay-Z’s first single dropped in 1995, and he never had a #1 single on the Hot 100 as a lead artist until 2009 with “Empire State Of Mind”. It took Hov 14 years to finally score one of those, and Drake’s first single came out 4 years ago. Just Saying…

  69. in 3 years rofl drake shitting on the game

  70. JWhistles says:

Album sales dont make a good artist, it just means people buy their shit. What I mean by that is if youre going to say thats what makes Drake good then you must also like Justin Beiber, Spice Girls and 98 Degrees since they all sold alot of albums. See how stupid that sounds?

I dont like Jay because of his sales records, I like him because hes a good rapper and Drakes lyrics will never be even half as good.

  71. urbitch@mynxtsho says:

For 1, Drake, is in his own lane; Rap & Blues(Unlike Ja Rule and others’ attempts). #2, He’s only been in the game a few years(approx 4 – 6 yrs) and his first two studio albums have slightly sold more than Jay’s first two(in the US). That’s saying a lot, since both artists had very different music industry environments to deal with. The real challenge will be with his third, Jay’s third album, Vol.2 HKL, sold over 5 mil. So maybe Drake hasn’t broke into top 100 , but Jay didn’t do it either, with his first 2 albums.

  72. buzz says:

^^true but with Drake already being a nickalodeon child star on “degrassi” , mix that with fact that he signed to lil Wayne’s Cashmoney/Young money especially getting noticed around the time when Wayne himself finally blew up into pop status in 2008, gave Drake a major boost into fame, which is why his first album got the shine it got, ( lil wayne fans automatically poured unto drake) Jay z didnt have that in his first two albums, even though he was friends with BIG he still had to prove himself as a rapper, then he got signed to Def jam, then he had to develope as a commercial / mainstream artist which is why his third album (HKL) sold so much and put him on the road to the success he has now. Shawn’s story>> aubrey’s story

  73. I hate hipster rappers says:

Let’s also not forget Drake is Jewish and plays the holocaust card to get sympathy from addle-pated pieces of shit Americans. Being Jewish and a liberal these days is a cool trend. It’s not like if he was truly black, he’d be getting this much attention.

  74. Hov says:

    Congrats Drizzy but still…

    STILL HAVE NO GRAMMYS

  76. el padrone says:

who really cares? jay-z>drake this will never change. reasonable doubt>>drakes career.

  77. Hip-Hop Fiend says:

CONGRATS DRIZZY! Compare where Drake is at right now and Jay-Z’s first 4 yrs in the game. Drake will prolly have like 7 albums when its all said and done and each of them will be #1. I mean Drake was selling out arenas before his debut album dropped. Drake won’t be 40 and still making music because he will prolly too busy making movies. Drake blew up at a rapid pase and no one can deny that.

  78. AMc says:

Ten #1 Singles is different than 10 #1 albums

  79. sincity says:

i think he’ll get a grammy next year, probably for best hip hop album and/or best hip hop artist, kanye will get best hip hop song for Mercy
