I remember when Em was underground and it was alot of black people saying how dope Em was and Sway had Em on his show rapping repeatedly when most people never even heard the name Eminem. On an underground level I never seen black people kick a white rapper out the spot for being white, in alot of cases I’ve seen black MCs pass the mic like there was no difference between them and the white rapper and I’ve seen the reaction to a dope rhyme be the same whether it was delivered from a black rapper or a white one. Hip Hop overall has been alot more welcoming to white rappers then I think Hip Hop gets credit for. If there is any protectiveness over Hip Hop from black people? Its based on the history of other black music being copied and then taken, corrupted, and watered down… Alot of black people feel like we should have ownership over our own culture because its the only form of culture in america that black people can say is theirs without having to go into historical origin to prove it. On an underground level I never seen black people kick a white rapper out the spot for being white, in alot of cases I’ve seen black MCs pass the mic like there was no difference between them and the white rapper and I’ve seen the reaction to a dope rhyme be the same whether it was delivered for a black rapper or a white one. Hip Hop overall has been alot more welcoming to white rappers then I think Hip Hop gets credit for. If there is any protectiveness over Hip Hop from black people? Its based on the history of other black music being copied and then taken, corrupted, and watered down… Alot of black people feel like we should have ownership over our own culture because its the only form of culture in america that black people can say is theirs without having to go into historical origin to prove it. Again, none of this takes nothing away from Em’s skills.
