I thought it was cool. It’s def one helluva story. I think it coulda been more tighter when discussing the “beefs” but, overall thumbs up.

  5. Toss says:

hip hop honors were bullshit last night. what a disgrace to def jam

  6. RamJam says:

They shoulda had the Junkyard Band up there at least

  7. Ac@pella! says:

I totally agree with Mister Cee. Those bands made shit wack because if ur rappin over a band, u gotta get LOUDER and that fux up the performance cause no one can understand whatchur saying due to the fact ur outta breath from screamin over a got damn guitar and drum. Once in a while is cool, but not for some shit like last nite….and wus up with them not shoutin out Shakir Stewart??? He brought a lot of the new Def Jam niggaz on in the game like Jeezy and Ross…smh…

  8. BUCKY LOVE says:

i agree with the skakir statement at least rick ross should have shouted him out
but when the intro first started i thought they would pay tribute to the fallen def jam fam like shakir then it turned into t. morgan acting an ass as a pastor (foul)

2ndly why wasnt the 1st marquee artist there uncle L? (technical foul)

why did we have kid rock doing im bad? (reaching foul)

where was hov? i know hes no longer def jam but shit lyor was there hes atlantic same with hov (distribution)

kevin liles was there (warner) is it me or did kevin look like he was on an episode of nip/tuck?

shit mary was there no offense cliff but id rather hear cant knock the hustle than you’re all i need
hov and scarface couldhave also done guess whos back

i expected ja todo 2 ashanti joints then go back to holla holla (would have been nice to see murda gram perform on one stage together) if you young fucks dont know who murdergram is kill yourself your not hip-hop

oran juice jones? okay pioneer of r&B @ def jam but montell jordan had that locked for like 6 years
peace to sisqoo and dru hill where was case 112 jagged musiq (lyor could have brought him) kelly price… they were def soul

foxy came out looking like a black miss piggy

    warren g set was cool

    rick ross? c’mon son!

dmx was the only one who rocked the crowed and got emotion from russell and them

and the biggest foul no run dmc? no tribute no reunion hell they at least did a half ass beastie boys joint

    NO RICK THE RULER (FAIL)

is nas still def jam????? lol

step it up peace to lesser known def jam acts past
jayo felony cadillac tah and cormega lol also keep in mind def jam signed FLY (fail)

as someone who loved def jam remember
    survival of the illest tour
    4,3,2,1
    the symphony 2000
    i shot ya
the nutty professor 2 and rush hour soundtracks were nuts both backed by def jam

    those were my joints

  9. I was hella disappointed they didnt mention Shakir, but I didn’t expect much from VH1 putting together anything from hip hop. And they also only had so much time so I knew alot of people who deserved to be on there were gonna get left out.

  10. RoeLuv says:

My biggest issue was no Slick Rick, that’s just wrong on alot of levels

  11. mac DIESEL says:

THAT SHIT WAS SO DEPRESSING TO WATCH!!!! THEM PERFORMANCES WAS WACK!!!! I MEAN REALLY WACK!!! MOST OF THE NITE RUSSELL N THEM NIGGAS LOOKED UNEMOTIONAL WATCHIN SOME OF THE PERFORMANCES!!!! OVERALL, THAT SHIT WAS JUST BAD!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!!

  12. deframon says:

RUM DMC WAS NEVER ON DEFJAM THEY WERE ON PROFILE, LEARN YOUR HISTORY SON

  13. goodmourning says:

UNDERWHELMING…. i mean….kid rock? word? ja used to have that intense energy(see holla holla music video) but that performance was yawn despite being given this opportunity to forget the 50 cent obliterating his career. officer ross= terrible. trey songz was half assing that warren g shit, nate dogg musta been spinning in his iron lung during that performance. Fab may be the least charismatic in the game cuz he dragged down that foxy performance(lmao black miss piggy) with his robotic stage presence. there was a noticeable absence of some key stars there. a def squad performance woulda been dope with angry keith murray, a nore set, Slick rick of course it seemed like shit was slapped together last minute IMO waste of a momentus occasion. but what do i know im just a fan.
on that note congrats def jam.

  14. questo says:

as long as he didn’t say “rock the bells” & “rebel” i skraight.

  15. questo says:

as far as “hey where @#$%T was.?….”
yall think cats just woke up one day and said
“hey let’s pay tribute to a label and let’s do it without
their flagship aritst (LL shooting his show could NOT leave LA), their best selling artist (MCA’s cancer op prevented B-boys from doing show) and their star artist (BP3 tour with Coldplay in europe prevented him from participating we shot it the day BP3 came out).

as far as the other artists that SHOULD have been there. calls in the double digits were made and the same two letter word was shot right back at us…

    “No”.

  16. sutrasays says:

yea quest cuz those tracks are instrumented tracks.. guitars and drums.. thats what the sound was, thats more than appropriate. but when the band is performing “Slam”? makes no sense, that song dont got no damn melody! besides niggas yelling

  17. The Editor says:

Def Jam, Def Jam, I remember going to that building on Varick, riding in that small as elevator, Lyor sister (me Think) working the front desk,

That Logo, is Lyor said, is like Holy Grail, no Young Jeezy, no one mentioned him, they did not even play his music, and FAB only in a tribute joint, they could of at least let him do a Hov joint, followed by his biggest hit, which was on DEF JAM, Foxy, love her, I just saw her on Flatbush in the Summer, she was not that big, or pleasantly plumped,

No 3rd Bass, no disrespect to Em, but them was them White Dudes right there, and they from Brooklyn and Search was in the audience, Nikki D, first female signed, Nice and Smooth was on Def Jam, K Solo, Def Squad Reunion, Murray was not that damn busy

Artist may feel a certain way about doing it because that got dropped, did anyone call Joe Buddens, his one hit did come on Def Jam (no shots, Gifford what Up-FREE IKE) where was the interview with Irv, Dee, Wah, Chivon, Dame Dash, Chaka, they dropped the ball alot, no Slick Rick, no Slick Rick, I know he got honored already, but so did LL, and why was KRIS there, he kicked a freestyle, no sense, and they should do medleys, mix a bunch of songs, Wale, is he signed there, he got a lot of exposure, and speaking of, ONXY need to get back on tour, do with EPMD, glad they showed them some love, bring Red & Meth, Murray and Canibus

DEF JAM, no love for the Roc, no Beans, he just dropped an album, why he said no, they waiting for Hov to get his due, Nas, no Nas, where he at, Young Chris, Peedi Peedi, Freeway, NeYo, Rihanna, Def Soul, I mean they have had so many people come through them doors, even Shyne, CNN, Mega, so many artist, I think they need to have a redo, a mulligan or something

    @ DEFRAMON
    RUN-DMC was managed by russell
    had joints produced by rick
they were in krush groove with ll
