Dame Dash To Resurrect Roc-A-Fella

[vodpod id=Video.3541925&w=425&h=350&fv=configParams%3Dinstance%3Dnews%26amp%3Bvid%3D511811]

Guess the chain still remains after all. Damon Dash tells 1515 that he plans to revive the label he co-founded and release Curren$y’s Pilot Talk through the company. Roc for life?

“Def Jam or Universal bought the brand. I think the ‘beef’ [with us and Jay-Z] was that Jay made it clear he didn’t want me or Biggs to be a part of it. That’s really where it was at. Now that he doesn’t work for Def Jam anymore, he doesn’t have the right to use the name. So there’s no reason for us not to use it. It’s there, and it’s a brand that’s not being used. So I was like, ‘I’ll take it.’ It always meant something to me.”

  2. Gizzle says:

Dame is “Corny” for this move. What happened to being done with music from “Wack World”….Guess that’s what desperate people do when the checks stop rolling in. and L.A. Reid is the worst thing to ever happen to hip-hop music. All of this to get back at Jay for leaving….but like he said…We off Dat!! and On to the Next One!!! Dame’s pathetic…how’s that “Jim Jones’ album is better than Reasonable Doubt” working out for you….Clown!

  3. What I Said says:

I roc hoes yall roc fellas now yall trying to take my spot fellas-Nas

Roc-A-Fellas Is No More Leave It Be Now It’s YMCMB

  4. Post no billz says:

This is intresting.. Isnt kanye still signed to roc? And currency is dope his album is suppoesed to have ski on most the beats…

  5. pushakey says:

thats kinda ill, and i totally feel dame on this

  6. flawda says:

It makes no difference if it’s Dame Dash Music Group or Rocafella, if you don’t have your flagship artist “Jay-z” then no one cares. I hope he doesn’t think people messed with Rocafella because of Dame.

  7. mac DIESEL says:

IT’S OBVIOUS THIS NIGGA IS NOTHIN’ WITHOUT THAT ROCAFELLA NAME!!!! HE CAN’T REINVENT HIMSELF AND CREATE SOMETHING NEW N FRESH!!!! JAY DON’T EVEN TALK ABOUT ROCAFELLA NO MORE!!!! THIS NIGGA WAS AN ARROGANT EGOTISTICAL PRICK!!!! THIS NIGGA WAS ALWAYS TALKIN’ DOWN ON NIGGAS THINKIN’ HE WAS GOD N SHIT!!!! NOW HE’S A BITTER BASTARD!!!! KARMA IS A BITCH!!!! DAME DASH IS CORNY!!!! STILL STUCK IN THE PAST ASS NIGGA!!!! ROCAFELLA OVER NIGGA!!!! MOVE ON!!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  8. Gizzle says:

The first five releases won’t combine to go Gold…money bet!!! The record selling business is OVER unless you come into the game as a superstar….and sorry, but Currensy in so superstar. Give it a rest Dame Dummy….you blew a good thing with your ego and treatment of people on the way up…and believe me, no one’s gonna forget you’re a grade a AssHole. Only now, you’re a broke one.

  9. I KNOW HIP-HOP says:

“Shoulda stayed in Food & Beverage…to much floss-ing, too much Sam Rothsein!!”

  10. Harlem1Der says:

Ya’ll not lookin at the other side of it. We all know what kind of business minds both Hova and Dame have, especially when it came to Rocafella. Now just think, for some stupid ass reason, Jay and Dame had a falling out right, some shit that absolutely nobody thought would ever happen right. Jay becomes the head of Def Jam, Dame goes and does his own thing. All of as sudden, Jay decides he don’t wanna deal with Def Jam anymore and signs with Live Nation (a company not many of us have ever heard of, myself included). Now all a sudden Dame talkin bout buying the brand. Now a stipulation to Jay signing to Live Nation was that he couldn’t bring any of the Roc Artists over, but nothing was said about him or any of the artists still being on the Roc right. Granted Jay’s signed to Live Nation, but you really think he’s still not Roc for life?? Him owning the masters to Reasonable Doubt shows that Def Jam doesn’t own it and can’t recieve any money off it, but it’s still a ROC A FELLA record?? I’m just sayin, this might be a secret move to get the best of Def Jam….

  11. DARKAQUA says:

well MAC DIESEL said EVERYTHING I WAS THINKING…THAT NINJA STILL BITTER…HE NEEDS TO EXHALE AND LET GO OF THE PAST

NOTHING GONNA CHANGE FOR HIM UNTIL HE LET GO OF THE PAST…THIS IS REAL SAD DAME..REAL SAD 🙁

  12. TimBanks says:

Hold up LA Ried is a joke… Kanye is still signed to rocafella/defjam and has touring/mangment with roc nation (so dose No Id). LA is going to end up pushing his highest selling artist out. and jay still has everyone from the roc staff even emory jones. dame is a great business man but when poeople see him they think of jay not the other way round.

  13. This site & its readers are dumb as fuck……ya’ll can never look into something & look at both sides of a situation……from the comments i see its like you just base your opinions on what you hear…….what has Dame done to you personally? What has he done to anyone really? Anyone ever notice that Dame still has a big following among respected artists? That Blakroc shit was dope, anyone who thinks other wise…go bump your Soulja Boy Records.

Dame Dash was mad influential in making the Jay-Z we see today, he was the one going to “war” with labels and doing all the dirty work, damn if i was an artist you’d love to have a guy like Dame batting for you.Hes a hell of a business man and has great ear for real talent.

hating ass faggots…lol, fuckers act like Hova pays your rent.

  14. mac DIESEL says:

    @ Fakeskeepfaking

    “hating ass faggots”

U AS BITTER AS DAME!!!! DAME PAY YA RENT??? HA!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  15. I KNOW HIP-HOP says:

listen fake…nobody’s shorting dame on what he did for roc-a-fella….the point is, his ego started to cloud his vision and he started believing his own hype….he wasn’t the talent, but wanted to be on front street like he was and started feeling himself a little too much. after they got to a point where everybody had money, dame started dumbing out and doing shit without checking with jay first, like signing sam ronson, m.o.p., o.d.b. etc….as well as shady business dealings with his own artists….so jay stepped back and so, ok, since our deal is up, it’s the right time to go our seperate ways….dame felt like he was the driving force of the roc, but without jay’s star power, he had nobody to hock his gear, movies and other ventures….so we all get paid from the sale of the rock, dame, take your 22 mil for roc-a-wear and keep it moving….unfortunately for dame, karma and the recession bit him in the ass….now he’s broke, while jay went to far greater heights and a lot more money….so did jay need dame, or did dame need jay? don’t worry, i’ll wait……………..

  16. YouKnowMe says:

When I hear ‘Rocafella’ first thing comes to mind is JayZ Beans Bleek not Dame not Currensy. Dame can’t control his ego and currensy was that dude that couldn’t make it on Young Money *kanyeshrug*

  17. flawda says:

    @ Fakeskeepfaking

If he is this great business mind, how come he can’t duplicate his success at Rocafella? Wanna know why, Jay-z was his trump card and the only reason why people fucked with him was to get with Jay-z. I personally think people don’t give Jay enough credit on the business side when he was with Rocafella, people act like he was this artist who had no idea what to do business wise.

  18. Cudder says:

Why does everyone sound so mad on this post?

  19. Dan says:

This greazy nigga Dame Dash needs to get the fuck outta here with this shit. There is NO Roca-a-Fella without Jay. Period.

  20. coco says:

i always knew LA REID is a snitchh. Jay better stay away from that dude.

  21. JERZZZ says:

This niggas a fuckin Idiot. Roc-a-Fella will always be there, But there’s no bringing it back

  22. over says:

dame it over go do something the run is over

  23. blaqscorpio says:

THERE IS NO ROCAFELLA WITHOUT JAY. PERIOD!

    SO BITTER, SO BROKE! LMAO!

  24. Cory says:

dude should resurrect some new glasses… sheeesh

  25. Truth will out says:

Here’s the simple truth. If you helped create a brand and put your heart and sould into it, you will always be connected to it and remain bitter/feel emotions if you happen lose it. Nothing wrong with that. Besides, nobody is more tempermental that dumb ass niggas on this whole planet, especially my man mac DIESEL haha. He/She has a few tempermental qualities.

But businesses are like children. Steve Jobs is still bitter at Gates. Anyone who says just move on is ignorant…

Dame was an Asshole, but so what. The Roc will always be partly his.

    –Truth Will Out

  26. JohnBlack says:

I’m glad that Dame is taking the Rocafella brand. The name Rocafella still holds weight in Hiphop plus he helped build it. I hope he brings Cam back (again) and gives him the title of vice president of Rocafella (again). Then release that Diplomat album on Rocafella/Defjam and get it poppin’ again. But i honestly think that Currency will NEVER blow up in his lifetime. EVER!. He just doesn’t have that star quality and bars to match.

  27. EZPimpn says:

Damn u niggaz dumb this is brilliant on Dame’s part. He got bought out what, 3 years ago for upwards of $50 million, and now he’s getting the brand name back for free. Tell me u wouldn’t trade some going-nowhere artists like Memphis Bleek and Beanie Seigel for $50 million. This actually makes Dame look better as far as I’m concerned. And someone said Dame’s broke? Dame ain’t broke dumbass I was just at his art studio yesterday dudes got plenty of shit going on. U just hatin cuz hes flyin private and your ass is on the bus.

  28. Sin says:

how’s that “Jim Jones’ album is better than Reasonable Doubt” working out for you….Clown!

    LMFAO
ay when he said it he sound like he ain’t even believe he was sayin it. Jimmy was prolly like “WTF this nigga talkin bout b”

  29. pissed says:

So you mean to tell me this dude has a chance to start a wholr new legacy with creative control, Currensy, Stalley, Ski beatz, & numerous other artists & he wants to used the Rocafella name?

That’s some BS. I was fukkin with that new shit he’s had his hands in cuz its all been dope but cmon the new shit he’s doin is nothing like the old Roc…that time has passed, let it go Dame. Dude has to be bitter for this BS.

  30. pissed says:

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  32. chitlin coon says:

this is the only time ill agree with mac.

  33. Cudder says:

    @ mac DIESEL

I think you overestimate your own cleverness.

  34. y’all people kill ME!! LOL! the last decade we all spent 10 bucks on a jay-z rocafella release. it don’t mean y’all got say so in what the business is goin to be (“You’re Only a Customer”). If theres no Roc-a-fella without Jay… how come it was without dame? I thought y’all WATCH the Boondocks. stop dick riding for jay like this is a movie and Dame is the villain. Hell in that case i always rooted for the villain (“long as the villain win…”). its all about a brand and what that brand symbolized. if anything this animosity should not be towards Dame who tried to keep “Roc La Familia” alive, while Jay-z Boastfully destroyed it. Family? i got Family and we beef too; but i ain’t breaking ties with my Family for whatever reason. Blood in Blood out right? business is business, if Dame can re-gain control of roc-a-fella from Def Jam without gettin sued… i Say FUCK IT!

    ROC-A-FELLA Y’all!!

  35. Lyriciss says:

i don’t get how wanting to get back in control of a brand he helped start as being bitter. Jay bought Dame and Biggs out with Def Jam check, then left Def Jam/Universal to do his Roc Nation/Live Nation thing, basically leaving the Roc-A-Fella brand at Def Jam, collecting dust. if it’s there, i don’t see why Dame shouldn’t get it back…put the brand to use, reinvent the legacy. Jay’s obviously leaving it to die anyway…seems like Dame cares more about the brand than Jay did at the end of the day…really looks like Jay did what he did out of spite, which he kinda admitted when he explained his anger about not being able to have the sole rights to the Reasonable Doubt masters. so yeah…kudos to Dame in his endeavor, and kudos to Jay with Roc Nation…i see future in hip-hop with both Curren$y AND J. Cole…i’m interested in seeing what happens.

  36. illaDeuce says:

you guys are talkign about what rocafella symbolized. Suck my dick, Above all Rocafella symbolized Jay-Z. I didn’t throw the sign up in respect to dame, when I throw that sign up I think Jay-Z. ROC NATION IS THE GANG NOW. If dame does this everythings gonna be fucked up, cus hov still talks about the roc, except now he’s referring to roc nation.. so when i throw my diamond up for the roc nowadays its for roc nation. What am i sposed to do when dame comes with rocafella, STOP THROWING MY DIAMOND UP??? Roc nation is the roc, the roc lives on, but that title of rocafella is old news, MAC DIESELS right, dame needs to move on.

LMFAO at dame saying he was gonna make jim jones the next jay-z before AHAHA, prolly thinks the same bout curren$y.. Jay made Jay.

  37. ALL YALL SOME DICK RIDERS AT THE END OF THE DAY.TAKING TIME OUT ARGUE ABOUT MOVES SOMEBODY MAKING..YALL SHOT THA FUCK OUT.

  38. mac DIESEL says:

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  39. Big G says:

Dame practically built Roc A Fella along with Biggs. They were the business brand of the operation and they signed the majority of the talent with Roc A Fella. get yo shit straight. Or do you guys forget that Dame was the one who signed Kanye? then Jay jumped on board with him. Idk if he can do it again but he’s got the brains to do it.

  40. KP Tha Super says:

” It was very similiar to the way we felt…(pause…front for a sec.) BACK IN THOSE DAY$”…..Ha!!! C’mon Dame say that it reminded you of the ORIGINAL ROC-A-FELLA DAY$ G! dont front like you cant even say that or Jigga name kidd!
Curren$y Do ya thing fam! you been hott “SPITTA” Fuck with the movement… Ikeepitclassic.com

and L.A. Reid is the worst thing to ever happen to hip-hop music.

oh word? because outkast ruined rap right? give me a break kid….

all the foul shit being said about dame, honestly i felt the same as most of you until i saw some 30 min intrvw with dame and the creative control people and the dude made tons of sence and seemed to have a better attitude and out look on this game. most of the shit being said is spot on the old dame but if you were to keep up on what hes doing now and how hes going about things..you wouldnr feel that way any more. hes realy trying to restore quality rap and i would have never guessed even a year ago that he would be that dude.

him wanting roc back is the same as jay wanting reasonable doubt, they want their baby what they created. i think its hillarious how people keep saying and thinking dame is broke ahaha somebody with that much business sence will never be broke. harlem hustler broke? highly unlikely. i support dame, creative control, 24 hour karate school and all that they are doing cuz they are supporting the artist that helped me love rap again and after 25 years of listening to it that says alot…

Dame isn’t broke but he tries to shine using rocafella name, where is his older label, DDMG ??
The true is without a Jay (or another very good rapper) it’s more difficult to start a music label, that’s why he wants to keep rocafella name
The blackroc was a good album but it floped, Dame needs more publicity

Jay-Z, Bleek, Beens, Free, State Prop., and Young Guns are Roc-A-Fella. Nevermind the business end, with out them Roc-A-Fella just a name the cd case. All this resurection talk is just part of the marking plan for the release of Curren$y’s album. Dame, C’on son, this plan is transparent, let Roc-A-Fella Records rest in peace.

  54. blaqscorpio says:

Rocafella was BUILT off of the talent and the TALENT was Jay. Jay’s name is what sold the albums/clothes/shoes/liquor not Dame. Hence, there is no rocafella WITHOUT Jay. This will fail.

  55. 8 feet tall says:

The decent album jayz put together was when he was associated with dame. Every cd after the black album was a disappointment. But I still agree with macdiesel

  56. will says:

like curren$y is not the nigga you want to be the head of your crew I mean he has been the feature artist on two big labels(No Limit then Young Money) and he just disappeared from his group fly society and formed the Jets and he on more songs with Wiz now

I mean it can happent but i dont think curren$y is ana artist you wanna to put the brand on his bacc becuz he has shown when things get bad he will jump ship quicc

He got Terry Kennedy and Fly Society Dissing him wayne dont even talk about him anymore and Master P probably dont want to remember him

I mean Dame said that he made Hov made Hov Ok so make another Hov he should just go to the streets and find a cat thats not known and spits

Becuz Curren$y not going to do it Dame

say that to say this with out Dame there would be no Roc. yes Jay was a bigger part of it being that he was the, flagship, the voice, the personification of the music. but without the asshole shit don’t happen. dame dash was that asshole. dame was the one responsible for the expansion of the roc to more than a label. dame was the marketing, the product placement (i know i drank an irresponsible amount of armadale, wore my rocawear, laced up sdots and pro-keds, maybe not the pro-keds but u get the point). dame was the one that brought in siegal and state prop and the dips. so without dame there would be no Roc, but there would still be a Jay-Z.

  59. Pete from Harlem says:

I’m supportive of Dame Dash and his ventures….but personally, I think he should start something new with Currency. The BlacRoc thing seemed like the next stage of evolution from once was Roc-a-Fella, so that’s what they should build on.

  60. i have to admit Dame has a right to use the name he help build that house so think about that before u start talking

  61. Truth will out says:

I’m not sure if this will be a good move or not. Individuals need to keep in mind that, after a falling out, the harsh and hurtful words one person says to another, and have made its way to to the airwaves, interviews, etc, really can’t be taken back. it really shows a persons true feelings and thoughts about another when money is involved and when things are in the heat of the moment.

If this reconciliation does happen, fans, the record label, are going to pressure other branches of reconciliations, e.g., Beans, State Property, or even DipSet. I personally don’t see this happen. Beans, along with the rest of these guys, who have disrespected Hov in a way, with an intent to taint his career, skills, and legacy, was totally wrong. Note: I’m not saying Hov was an innocent bystander, but I will say he’s handle the situation with a lot of maturity then the rest. The chances are slim of Dame and Hov working together again, but, I will leave room to think there’s a possibility.

Dame isnt a rapper or does any beat production so with that said if you take any owner from any business and take all that he built and kick him to the curb, well just say its hard to survive that in any business line. Now if Jay Z got kicked to the curb and you left Dame with Roc-A-Fella then both of them would be very successful, because Jay can rap period. And Dame is not a rapper.

Dame def got the shady end of the deal…
