After almost two decades on-air, Cipha Sounds announced today that he is resigning from his post at Hot 97. Says Ciph:
“After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I¹m changing my relationship status from ‘it¹s complicated’ to ‘single’. It¹s been an amazing ride – from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie¹s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge.”
Says Hot 97:
Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. We wish him well on his future endeavors.
im not surprised hot 97 is a sinking ship with all the originals leaving because with ebro and the reast of the outtowners programming ny hip hop radio making it sound like ATL strip club and i hope he doesnt go to power 105 because thats nothing more than a hot 97 clone
I doubt it. Power 105 offered Ciph a job twice and he turned it down. Once for the breakfast club before it began and a 2nd time before Angie left doubling his salary.
i heard the parent company that owns 105 is having financial problems and leaving hot to go to power is the same only in different buildings

Did you listen to the Whoo Kid or Russell Simmons episode of the Combat Jack Show? I highly recommend them.
I don’t believe I did, I think I picked like the top 5 or 8 ones with guests I wanted to hear and was a little let down for some reason. But I’ll give them another shot and check those episodes out.

Hahaha yeah one of them was the Dame Dash episode but I don’t think I made it more than 30 minutes through it, I have some respect for Dame but when he runs his mouth it drives me crazy. I listened to the PRhyme, Cipha Sounds, Scarface, Ice T, Big Krit, Lil Boosie, Jeezy and maybe the Marley Marl and Sadat X ones but I cant fully remember. I was kind of picking randomly to get a sense of the show, but to be fair some of those guests I don’t care about so much like Boosie and Jeezy, I just wanted to see how the show was with artists i’m not a big fan of. If you have any suggestions for the best episodes I’ll check them out though. I know there are a lot more great guests I didn’t listen to.

Every interview he didn’t know the name of the artist or their past records… That’s why they got rid of him in the morning show….he just had a lot of experience that’s all….he should stick to comedy… He’s actually not bad at all doing stand up…. Cipha Sounds did not want to take a step back in his career. Imagine going from morning show to prime afternoon slot to fill in spots since they had nothing for him. It’s a career decision many of us would have done the same. Hot97 probably told him all we can do for you is this otherwise its your decision to stay and leave. The man wasn’t fired but the choices he had probably were not ideal choices to make him stay. THIS IS HOW BUSINESS AND HR WORKS PEOPLE. As for not getting a fair shot at the afternoon gig, well lets be serious, they were looking for someone young and a female and we all know it. Cipha is a dope dude and host but I don’t believe he is a prime time player and I am speaking from the CEO perspective. Cipha you were smart.
Man, Hot 97’s a joke. Out here losing people because Ebro wants to be a star. Dude’s a program director and his mindset is numbers. Someone like that should stick to being behind the scenes. 0% passion and all money. Ciph has passion and was instrumental in breaking a lot of records.
