Eminem made a surprised performance during last night’s 92nd annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California (February 9).
During the ceremony, Lin-Manuel Miranda presented a montage celebrating the impact of music, which concluded with Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” from 8 Mile. Immediately after, Marshall emerged on the Dolby Theatre stage to perform his 2002 hit alongside an orchestra band.
In 2003, the song earned an Oscar for best original song, becoming the first hip-hop song to do so at the Academy Awards.
8 Mile stars Eminem as an aspiring young rapper named Rabbit dealing with struggles in life, and foes, while trying to make a career and earn the respect at an underground battle rap competition.
Prior to Em’s surprise performance, Janelle Monae opened up the ceremony with a performance inspired by some of the year’s biggest films. What a movie!
