Now, for all of you Kendrick Lamar fanatics out there, let me give reasoning behind my decision as to why Drake is the King of Hip-Hop right now. Drake has been one of the best rappers of the new generation. Since 2011, when Take Care dropped, it’s pretty easy to say he’s been at the top. The sophomore album went double platinum and was the second highest-selling album of 2012 when it was dropped in 2011. In 2012, Complex said that he was the ‘Best Rapper Alive’, when he hadn’t released one single piece of solo music – all collaborations. Why did they give him that title if he hadn’t released any music? Because he had the hottest 16 bars on every song he featured on. Nothing Was the Same was the highest-selling album of 2013.
But, let’s talk about right now. If You’re Readin This It’s Too Late is the closest we’ve seen to a rap album from Drake – this album shows a lot less singing compared to previous album Nothing Was the Same. The interesting thing about this classic album is how different the tracks are from the normal wave of music we’re hearing at the moment. The OVO camp’s creativity never fails to satisfy.
The amount of hits Drake has is almost comparable to Jay-Z. His collection and résumé speaks different volumes compared to all rappers that have competed with him in the last few years. I’m talking new school rappers, not the likes of Kanye or Eminem. It could be argued that everybody in hip hop knows that Young Thug will be the next to snatch the title when he releases his sophomore album. The feature verses Young Thug has been giving recently have exhibited his artistic potential. But, until we see the sophomore album, Drake holds the title.

Nah I play shit from Compton every now and then. Plus its in my West Coast playlist, so shit gets randomly selected from time to time. Yeh Compton wasn’t that out of this world amazing but it was refreshing to hear something like that cut through all the other bs. We did also get Anderson .Paak out of it too.
