6th man means someone who can and will be a “starter” in the future or could at least carry the team if a starter is down.
Macklemore had one good year. ONE.
    Some would say, LUCKY. Fluke.

J Cole has had a steady rise w/no decline or bump at all. I’m not even a big J Cole fan, but I see his ascension.

B Dot is just a tool who’s choices are all predictable. He’s gonna name his favorite rapper or friend.
    “We’re in the music business”

NO , B. Dot. You’re in the hanging off Elliott Wilson’s name business cause there’s not one piece of writing that shows your credentials or abilities. Your smug face as you smoke a cigar (which you aped from Jigga) is all you are.
    A wanna be

    1. DAFFYSCI says:

Bdot got you feeling some type of way

      1. p0is0nedkoola on Twitter says:

B Dot ‘s got himself feeling a certain type of way. The thing is that this blog has a big backer in Paul Rosenberg w/a credible name in Elliott Wilson (who I was fan of years before this Internet shit) & it’s all going down the tubes for a goofus who has never written a thing.

Ever read XXL w/B Dot in it? He did the goofy columns like “Which rappers should smile more”.
Why is he arrogant again? Cause he “knows all the rappers you’re talking about”? That’s what he tweeted.

B Dot trashes Chief Keef but then waves the Jay Z MCHG flag, but who’s flow is Jay using? i think Chief Keef is garbage, but his music gets the youth going & you have to let go of your 90’s nostalgia.

Finally, if B Dot is so great then why do the smaller websites always beat him & this site to the better rappers out there? Rapradar is always far behind trying to push their tired favorites. Kendrick Lamar was featured on all the “hipster” blogs before Rap Radar figured out what was going on w/him.

I still enjoy the site for any YN content cause remember ELLIOTT WILSON paid his DUES!!!

B Dot is a goof who is at his peak & his peak is being on a website that posts popular music w/ 3 sentence bylines. The End.

HipHopDx .com needs our attention more, they actually post all hip hop songs w/the same urgency of ANOTHER post of Rick Ross buying a new car.

    2. El Funk says:

facts only and Elliot Wilson is a 40 year old hip hop blogger…HAHAHAHAHH shoot for the stars

  2. Bullfrog24 says:

    3. Word says:

  3. YN's yellow says:

charlamagne always going in on drizzy… getting old now its a become a weird obsession… how you not gonna put him in the starting 5?! J.cole for 6th man then Kendrick at 7

  4. Peekay says:

probably don’t like any of the artists they discuss in any of the categories but B. Dot’s definitely gassed if that photo is any indication.

  5. RTH says:

Mackelmore is Jeremy Lin, B Dot. Good call with J cole. fine tuning his craft and has a good chance and becoming a legend.

  6. Belly says:

Wayne is no longer a started. Kdot took his spot on the team. Wayne the mascot now.

  7. IamRealTalk-BdotLivesWithDad says:

SHOUT OUT MY OG MAC DIESEL !!!

  8. Sean Power says:

at this moment in time hate or love it macklemore is a big star than drake and has more sold show than drake this year so if drake is tart 5 for this year macklemore has be there and how was Kendrick not in 6 man talk his not sell out arenas yet his still opening for kanye, cole may not be sell arenas but he is headline his own tour

  9. areal1 says:

Come on I don’t disagree with j cole but wayne is a starter and NAS isn’t that’s bullshit dont give me that buzz bullshit cause RIGHT now most rap fans would take a nas album before a wayne album right now

  10. DesiJatt says:

fuck b dot hoe ass nigga

  11. DesiJatt says:

fuck the whole group is a bunch of nerds lmao

  12. Belize says:

Yall trash wack ass rappers need to promote yall shyt on dat piff instead of the comment section. aint nobody checkin yall shyt..like ever…even if you got talent. Its the equivalent of niggas pushing CD’s infront of Toys R Us..like “nigga! I got my kid with me FOH u herb”

    1. Leon Sandcastle says:

      lmao. Toys R Us tho?

  13. El Funk says:

    J. Cole getting 6th Man is like Kanye getting most improved.

  14. El Funk says:

I can’t believe that Wayne is still even being discussed

  15. El Funk says:

RUN THE JEWELS?!?!?!?!?! It’s a shame but I can’t believe they don’t get any love on this site. Pitchfork is the new home for hip hop… yikes

  16. Dashing28 says:

At this point, B.Dot’s just fucking with us, right?

He wants to say that after Jay, Em, Ye, Wayne and Drake, the next big guy in hip hop is…Macklemore??? Based on what? Platinum singles? Then why don’t we put Flo Rida up there? He’s got more platinum singles than everybody and he’s done it consistently for years. And Flo Rida can ride a beat well too…..The reason Macklemore, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Black Eyed Peas AREN’T on that list is cause people who listen to hip hop don’t fuck with them. I’m not talking about being drunk in the club and reciting “Can’t Hold Us” which is admittedly a goof club record, I’m talking about people who listen to hip hop reciting and memorizing your lyrics and making the kinds of records and albums that make rappers re-tool their whole albums. I’m talking about: 1)bars, 2)songs, 3)respect/fear from your peers AND 4)record sales. Macklemore got at most 2 out of the 4. He makes rap that 13 year olds play at their bar mitzvahs. Let’s be real.

If the 5 truly are Jay, Ye, Em, Wayne (Still really? How come no one even remembers he dropped an album this year?) and Drake, then the real answer should have been Kendrick, no question. He made the most noise this year and didn’t even release an album or a mixtape. He still got singles from last year in rotation a year later and his album is still classic a year later. He opened up for Kanye and is on the verge of reaching household name status.

People forget that 2 years ago everyone was pairing up Drake and Cole as the next up. And now, it’s Kendrick and Drake. And there’s a legitimate question as to who’s gonna come out on top. Cole simply hasn’t been a dominant force quite yet and his pace of improvement has been slow at best…so Kendrick got it, hands down….only way I’ll accept this is if they make Kendrick the MVP. If they do, then I’d go either with Cole or A$AP Rocky for 6th man, with Pusha T and Action Bronson as honorable mentions.

  17. Word says:

I just don’t get these guys criteria. Its like, they were saying 6th man with potential to be a starter. When I hear that, I absolutely agree with the Bronson pick (and I’d throw in ScHoolboy Q). But then they defined starter as essentially being on Ye, Jay, and Em’s level. Those guys are legends. Think Celtics or Spurs. They have their rings. I’m thinking of OKC. Hungry up and comers. Cole, Kendrick, Drake. Those guys. I think Q or Bronson can get there. Rocky is somewhat there. Chance the Rapper can get there too eventually.

    1. Leon Sandcastle says:

exactly. You can’t put Drake on the same team of starters as Em, Jay, Ye, and Wayne.

      1. it's the roc says:

But how? That doesn’t make sense, when you do these categories you are doing it for the year, not their career achievements. There is no way Drake is not a starter in 2013. You could make an argument that he is the star player.

        1. Word says:

They are definitely looking at career achievements, not just year by year. Wayne wouldn’t be a starter if you just look at this year. Shit, he’d barely make the squad as a whole.

        2. Leon Sandcastle says:

well if they’re talking just 2013, then their starting 5 is off anyway. Kendrick Lamar had a better year than anybody they mentioned besides maybe Drake. and i still think cole had a better year than kanye and wayne. And i mean music wise, not numbers.

  18. it's the roc says:

Based off of that criteria and those starters (of which Wayne should be replaced with Macklemore), 6th man is clearly Kendrick Lamar. It’s confusing because are these categories based off of the success of their music, or how big of a year they had overall?

  19. Huston says:

!!!Rigamortis Cover! Check it out!! Also Like the Video!! thanks for the support!

  20. bronxbillyunz says:

6TH MAN OF THE YEAR = J. COLE ALL THINGS CONSIDERED.
YES MACKLEMORE PUT UP THE NUMBERS & WHEN HIS WAVE WAS OVER PAUL ROSENBURG SAID “HEY MARSHALL… UR FAN BASE IS STILL IN BUYING MODE, IT’S TIME TO DROP SOME HEAT”
    J. COLE EVEN SAID ” I WONDER IF MY SKIN PALE , WOULD I THEN SELL LIKE MACLEMORE OR ADELE” – MAYBE NOT BUT YOU GET THE POINT!
MACKLEMORE = ROOKIE OF THE YEAR NO QUESTION. NUMBERS DON’T LIE.
BUT 6TH MAN IS WHO YOU WANT TO REPRESENT TEAM HIP HOP ONE DAY ON THAT STARTING ROSTER A LA JAMES HARDEN.
    THAT’S J. COLE GENTLEMAN.
AS FAR AS DRAKE AT THE BIG BOYS TABLE… HE DEFINITELY GOT A BIG PIECE A CHICKEN & ACCOLADES WHICH HE EARNED, BUT I’M KINDA NERVOUS ABOUT THE DIRECTION HE WOULD TAKE THE GAME IF HE WAS SOLE CONTROLLING SHIT.
HALF OF DEATH OF AUTOTUNE’S WAS A DRAKE DISS SO HOV AGREES. EVEN THO HOV WILL SAY DRAKE GOT NEXT.
HE’S SINGS TO GET INTO MORE HOMES, AND ITS TRUE TO HIS TALENT – BUT IN HIP HOP WHERE CREDIBILITY IS EVERYTHING – IT COMES AT THE RISK OF NOT GETTING THE NOD FROM THE DIEHARDS.
WHY YOU THINK HEAVEN GOT GATES?
AND DRAKE DON’T GIVE A FUCK – BUT HE DOES CUZ NOTHIN WAS THE SAME HAD LESS SINGING.

    1. bk1980 says:

perhaps there’s more than one type of autotune but could you name me songs where drake uses autotunes cuz when I think of autotune, drake does not come to mind Tpain Future and Kanye do
but I’ve only listened to Take Care and NWTS in full

  21. Selorm Amuzu says:

After watching this, 2 things are almost certain, Charmalagne Tha God needs to broaden his playlist and B dot really need to get off Macklemore’s dick. I mean seriously wtf is up with their choices ? even by their “standards”, Macklemore shouldn’t be a 6th man cos he made millions of 1 single out of 1 album lol his resume ain’t there yet. and how is Drake the sixth man when he practically subsituted Wayne for over 3 years, that is second dumbest reason compared to Drake being most improved of 2013 lol, Thank God they gave it to Cole cos compared to Bronson and A$AP, Cole is actually deserving of it. Also as much as Kendrick should be in that conversation, he is also in first album status aswell

  22. THE REAL mac DIESEL says:

    @ B.Dot
U STRIKE ONCE AGAIN BENSON!!!! MACKLEMORE??!!! HA!!!! LAST TIME I CHECKED MACKLEMORE WAS A POP ARTIST WHO PUTS RAP IN HIS MUSIC!!!! ANOTHER “L” ON YA RESUME BRIAN!!!! SOMEBODY NEEDS TO PUT THE BOGIE OUT IN YA FACE!!!!
………HA!!!! U A SUCKA FOR THIS ONE, BENSON!!!!
    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  23. Guillaume Pilon says:

    Ghostface

  24. asapgs says:

Sweet lord! Charlamagne give it a rest with your drake hard on I hope that n**** asks for a drop outside the breakfast club soon. This is coming from someone who only likes a handful of drake’s songs… but how you not gonna put him in the startin 5? Stick to your jokes clown leave the music discussion up to these bloggers
My vote is for J.cole though and if Kendrick keeps up this hot streak then him for next year

  25. ENDL3SS AMB1T10N says:

idk bout’ that one….Cole has a gold album, plus 2 gold singles under his belt this year…definitely started material imo..

  26. kanye west says:

b dot the blogger voting for mackelmore and ryan lewis, lets not forget ryan, is so fitting.

  27. Da Business says:

Smh… I really don’t understand their criteria. Cole being a six man doesn’t make any since to me. W/ 2 gold lp’s and 2 critical acclaim mixtapes, that’s starter stats to me. To me 6th man = next up. Bronson is cool and all but that spot belongs to School Boy Q.

But hey, what do I know…

    1. p0is0nedkoola on Twitter says:

But like a 6th man, Cole isn’t ready to lead a team to the title. Ask your mom who J Cole is & you’ll get a blank stare. Ask your mom about Kanye & she’ll have opinions.

Always go by who’s name mom recognizes, that’s the trick. Seriously. Think about it.

  28. bronxbillyunz says:

KENDRICKS IN THAT CONVO – BUT THE DIFF IS J COLE DOESN’T NEED HOV ANYMORE – WITHOUT DRE, KENDRICK DOESN’T MOVE THOSE UNITS. HE DID THE SHOWS & HE GOT THE FANS, BUT HE’S BEEN TRYIN TO BREAK FOR YEARS W/ NO LOVE.
SCHOOLBOY Q IS NOT IN THE CONVERSATION AT ALL FOR ME.. THEY SAID HOV, YE, TUNE, DRIZ & EM
ONLY KENDRICK & J COLE CAN COME OFF THE BENCH OF ONE OF THEM SIT.
KENDRICK HAD HOV & DRIZ ON HIS SINGLES ON THE RADIO
J COLE TOOK CARE OF ALL THE RAP DUTIES THIS GO ROUND ON HIS SINGLES –

KENDRICK DID MORE NUMBERS & SHOWS – BUT FOR THEM YEARS WHEN HIS BUZZ WASN’T DOIN TOO GOOD, WHO’S THE DOCTOR THEY TOLD HIM TO GO SEE?

  29. JADatsyuk says:

I don’t really get the ranking they’re going by. To me, it’s Jordan-Kobe: Jay, Em, Ye. Lebron-KD: Drake, Kendrick, J. Cole. None of the LeBrons they’re talking about are in Hov/Em territory.
